Cleaning up the Neighborhood and the Fujifilm FinePix Giveaway

7 Days to a Cleaner and Safer Neighborhood

Ever look around your neighborhood and notice trash on the side of the road or that one house that let's the grass get way overgrown? Do cars fly up and down your road with no regard for children at play? Are you tired of it? Well I am.

I've noticed over the past few months that my neighborhood, though it is in a descent area of the city, has really gone downhill. There are many children on my end of the road, including my own, and cars still continue to disobey the speed limit and carry on like no one is ever outside. The truth is if one of those kids was in the road, they probably wouldn't see them in time to stop! They seem like they don't even pay attention at all to their surroundings. Also, trash seems to wander into my front yard everyday. I go out and pick it up, trying to keep my little section of the street clean and beautiful, but it just comes right back the next day.

For the next seven days, I am going to ask that you join me in taking steps to make your neighborhood cleaner and safer for everyone! Each day I will make a post talking about one thing you can do to help start something that will hopefully catch on with the rest of your neighborhood. I believe that if others see someone actually doing something to make change, they will join in and do the same.

Today's step is really simple. Walk down your road with a trash bag and clean it up! I know it will embarrass you at first. If you truly care about your neighborhood, though, then the slight few minutes of embarrassment will be both worth it and rewarding. Just think about this: if you don't start it, who will? The answer: probably no one. Your street and neighborhood will continue being covered with clutter. This attracts wild animals, such as raccoon and rats, that make the neighborhood even more messy and unsafe. What if one of those animals is in your trash, and your child takes the trash out and gets bit? Then it's too late, the damage is done!

I go out to the bus stop every day to wait for my children and walk them home. Today when I do this, I am taking that trash bag with me. I don't know about you, but I am done having an unclean living area. My home is clean, inside and out, and my neighborhood should be the same. Who knows? Maybe this little step will have a much larger impact!
